Mata Hari

My first painting of 2015!  Done at home in my studio in Chapeau, Quebec!!  I have relocated to my home and it is so comfortable!  My work is still available on my website (soon to be revised!).  This is Mata Hari. This is a 16 x 20 canvas and done in various mediums, acrylic, collage, gold/silver foil. It was a lot of fun to do. She was dutch and had a tumultuous life. She ended up being an exotic dancer in Paris and being a high priced call girl. This is based on a photo of her in 1907 at the height of her career. She was executed 10 years later of espionage charges by a French Firing Squad. New evidence reveals that her biggest crime was sleeping with officers of both sides of WWI. Her pillow talk was said to be responsible for the deaths of over 50,000 men. In truth, the pillow talk was benign. She was made a scapegoat and executed. After reading her biography, I felt sorry for her. She was only trying to survive.mata hari

Women of War

I did a series of four, 11 x 14 paintings of Canadian women serving during the wars. This one is of women taking a break over a cup of coffee. They seem to be laughing at something that we can’t see. A moment of respite during a difficult time.coffee break (1024x776)

Firetruck

Here’s a new one that is very different from what I usually do, but I was so intrigued by the reflections when I saw the photo taken by Laurie Clouthier, that I had to try it. I must say it was quite a challenge. It is 16 x 20 done in acrylics.firetruck (1024x825)

Empress of Ireland

I did this painting, (acrylic, 24 x 36) to commemorate Canada`s Titanic. It is the 100th anniversary of its sinking in the St Lawrence River. It`s final resting place has been deemed a heritage site. It took the ship just 15 minutes to sink taking over 1000 people with her.empress (1024x692)
